Just the other day someone said to me that the city of Farmington should do something to make Walter E. Sundquist easier to read on the Pavilion, I don’t agree. I think the city should take down both signs they currently have and put up the name that was promised, The Walter E. Sundquist Community Pavilion.
When the idea to build a community pavilion was formally presented to the Farmington DDA the then president, Ronald Oglesby said it’s a great idea but the DDA does not have any money.
The Pavilion Committee started a fundraising campaign. The DDA and City Council agreed that anyone that donated one half the funds would have naming rights to the Pavilion. Walter Sundquist came forward with one half of the funds and the name was born.
I remember when Pavilion committee member Nancy Tashman changed the fundraising brochure to read, The Walter E. Sundquist Community Pavilion; I delivered the first copy to Walter.
To me it will always be the Walter E. Sundquist Community Pavilion. It would be appropriate for the sign to read that way.
