Regular readers of The Enterprise may recall that I opined about a month ago that I couldn’t find Farmington Hills City Council meetings on the Southwest Oakland Cable Commission’s list of “on demand” videos - despite the fact that Farmington and Novi meetings were posted.
At tonight’s Farmington Hills City Council meeting, officials took action that will put those meetings on-line. Turns out an existing policy prohibited the city from disseminating recordings of the meeting for the length of time they would be posted on-line, 90 days. City attorney Steve Joppich speculated that his predecessor, the late and great John Donohue, most likely had concerns about attempts to use meeting videos as “public record”. He pointed out that approved meeting minutes are still the only official record of any council meeting.
Officials simply changed the time restriction. And those of us who love the “sunshine” appreciate it.

I read that article Joni, and asked the City Manager if we could change the policy because I agreed with you. Tonight was the result of that request. Good catch, and thanks.
Gee- and I’m not even a constituent! Thanks to you, Randy, for bringing this idea forward.
Very informative post. I’ve found your blog via Bing and I’m really glad about the information you provide in your articles. Btw your blogs layout is really broken on the Chrome browser. Would be great if you could fix that. Anyhow keep up the great work!
