Changes are afoot at Big Apple Bagels, our Saturday morning mainstay in Downtown Farmington. Just when we’d gotten used to owner Tony Maciejewski’s caustic humor and occasional Christian testimony, word is he’s sold the place – to Rev. Paul Bersche. Rev. Bersche is pastor of The Crossing Church, located in the former Frank’s Nursery building on Grand River and Mooney streets. A family member will be managing the shop.
Whoda thunk?

Well, it’ll be weird not to see Tony’s beaming countenance around the ol’ Apple… Hahahahahaha….sorry.
And a pastor as new owner – does this mean we may be seeing Manna bagels soon? Or Sunday Bible & Bagels? How ’bout Schmear-er My God to Thee? AHH! Stop me…
I wish both of them the best.
Off this topic……but in reference to a prior post of yours:
Jonie,
In light of the personal finance issues of the Detroit City Council would you reconsider a comment you made (in reference to the FPS Board of Education? At that time I suggested that I would like to see the personal finances of candidates prior to handing them the reins to multi-million dollar budgets. Your reply (as I recall) was that you didn’t think that was necessary but were more interested in what they SAID they would do.
Terry, the problems of Detroit city council members are very public. They involved unpaid federal taxes, unpaid property taxes, garnishments, criminal convictions and other issues that are part of the public record. If a local candidate was involved in some kind of problem like that, then their personal finances become fair game. But to say that someone’s personal finances should be a matter of public record just because he or she is running for public office seems excessive. And frankly, we have enough trouble getting people to run for office around here, without forcing them to fill out some kind of financial disclosure.
So no, I haven’t changed my mind.
Joni,
I hadn’t noticed a dearth of candidates for local elections……….althought I would agree that number of capable candidates is infinitely small, especially among those running for school board.
You and I are miles apart on this issue. Just as I want to know how a prospective judge stands on the issues that may arise in their courtroom, so I would also like to know the financial acuity of the people entrusted with millions of dollars of public money.
Run, Terry, Run!
