Memorial Day notes

Not even a streetscape could get in the way of Farmington’s Memorial Day parade, which will wind its way through construction on Grand River at 10 a.m., as usual, on Monday. One unfortunate casualty: Farmington Bakery will be closed on Monday. They’re usually open during the parade, but with a lane of rubble and construction fence in front of the building, the idea seemed less than practical.

While access was still open on the north sidewalk at the McNutt Building yesterday, today a large scaffold stood in front of the building, awaiting brick layers. Hopefully, that won’t be up all weekend. When the same contractor worked on the Exchange Bank building, now the home of Synergy Home Health Care, the brick work was done in a day.

Hats off once again to Wally Christensen, who every year is the driving force behind our community’s meaningful tribute to military veterans, as well as our police officers and firefighters. Read more about him in the Farmington Observer‘s story, published Thursday.

    You mean the Sunflour Bakehaus?

  2. Ooops – yes! I mean Sunflour Bakehaus in the historic Farmington Bakery. Someday, I’ll get used to that.

With the current lack of sidewalk space and a sizable drop infront of our door, we thought it safer and less stressful for all involved to wait out this years festivities.

Looking forward to next year and the new look of downtown.

Instead we spent some time on Monday planting our new plot at the Chelsey Street community gardens.

Look for lots of sunflowers and heirloom corn in a few months on your drive going north on Farmington road, just past Big Boy.
