FFH Chamber plans another move, to a surprising location

NOTE: In the 1/25/2008 edition of the Farmington Observer, a Chamber representative reported while the Chamber is in discussions with its landlord regarding a move, nothing has been decided. See related post.)

I just learned the Farmington/Farmington Hills Chamber will soon move into a building on Grand River. They’ll occupy space in the same building as Hockey Weekly, next door to Focal Point Photography.

The irony, of course, lies in the fact that the Chamber has not, at least in past years, paid much attention to Downtown Farmington. Conversely, Downtown businesses have not flocked to the Chamber. (And that’s sort of putting it mildly, at least where a few Downtown business owners are concerned.) Making the Chamber more visible on Grand River takes an enormous step in the right direction. This is a time to pull together, and bringing the Chamber from its previous location in a more “corporate” space on 12 Mile into the heart of our two communities makes sense.

Rumor has it the cute little purple building down the street may soon have a new tenant as well.

Happy news, all around.

Im tired of all these chambers and authorities using the same worn out idea of using a restaurant card/ punch card etc. as some kind of enticement to shop in their districts. Get a clue, not many of us are into eating out these days, nor are we all that excited about dragging a card around and getting it punched so that down the road we can save some chump change. The Chamber should have a bigger plan or at least lobby for better business conditions if it wants to save area businesses.
