Dick Carvell

We learned today that Dick Carvell passed away around 7 p.m. last night. Arrangements are being made by Thayer Rock Funeral Home, www.thayer-rock.com A full obituary and funeral arrangements are on-line.

When I got the news, a very clear memory crossed my mind of Dick leaning up against the counter at the old Farmington Observer office on Grand River, chatting with our receptionist Katie McManus. He was one of our regulars, along with ‘Uncle Jack’ Curd. I recently learned Uncle Jack passed away in late August.

Those two men brought a great deal of laughter and warmth into our little space. May they both rest in peace.

Farmington has lost a good man, someone who exemplified a love of one’s community and a dedication to it’s betterment. The people of this city owe a debt of gratitude to Dick and those like him who devote their time and effort to remembering the past, the better to steer us into the future.

A kind and gentle man, Mr. Carvell will be greatly missed.
