Farmington council member Dave Wright closed out tonight’s meeting on an interesting note.
With a nod to Hank and Betty Borgman in the front row, Wright expressed gratitude for Hank’s efforts with the streetscape petition drive and affirmed Hank’s point of view that voters needed to have a say on the bond issue.
“Even though it was time-consuming an costly, I think we have a better community as a result,” he said.
And Hank agreed.
Take that any way you want, I’m just reporting what I heard.

Hank and his wife Betty have been at the market(s) since the election, and Betty has remarked that “at least the people got to vote” on the streetscape project, and that she’s not sorry they started the petition drive, because it got people involved.
While I appreciate their grace in defeat, it still remains that the cost of doing this project did go up as a result of their actions, in terms of putting it on the ballot (probably not a huge amount of money), the cost of an extraordinary ‘educational’ effort, and theoretically requiring a larger pay-out to contractors at 2009 prices.
The opposition was ostensibly fueled by concern regarding the expenditure of public money. In getting their chance to express their displeasure, they’ve ultimately caused more to be spent.
Whether or not it was worth it depends on who you talk to, I guess.
3.2 mil @ 5% interest for 25 years = ?
Scott, you don’t want to “punish” the losers do you? (Although I don’t think Hank and Betty feel one bit that they are losers – as I recall, it is liberals that seem to invest in defeat and the Borgmans are not liberal). So what’s a few thousand more bucks? It was good money after good as we all have agreed this election was one of the most popular.
So let’s take that as a lesson learned and if you want, tack it on as an expected cost of passing the next bond issue.
Now, how about applying your previously used word “progressive” to a post-Streetscape scenario?
I need a vacation from my vacation.
Dear Mr. George H,
Your question: 3.5 Million @ 5% interest for 25 years = A Streetscape
Do you need any thing else?
Yes, do you want to punish the losers? Or are you just whining about winning the vote?
Scratch the second question. Scratch the first. I thought I was talking to Scott.
