Orchard Lake Road in bloom

Bursts of color have appeared in the medians installed a few years ago on Orchard Lake Road north of Farmington Hills City Hall. Day lilies are in bloom, as are the black-eyed susans. And I stand corrected, the flowers next to the hibiscus on Shiawassee are actually cone flowers.

I remember tracking down a long-time resident on Orchard Lake around the time they widened the road. He had created a peaceful little retreat on his property, having built a bridge over a small creek and wood-chipped a trail through it. The road project would, of course, permanently alter his way of life. I think about him every time I drive up that road and wonder what happened after he lost the war.
