The view from Mr. Shawarma

It was one of those moments that made me yearn for a camera phone.

We were sitting in Mr. Shawarma enjoying a meal with neighbors, when Brian spotted the sparkle of a crown coming from the direction of the Farmington Civic Theatre. The Miss Farmington Area Founders Festival would get underway around 7 p.m., in the meantime, the girls had begun gathering out front, perfectly resplendent in their colorful gowns, sparkly sashes and high, high heels.

I shifted my gaze ever so slightly to the stretch of Farmington Road visible through the picture window, and there, waiting for the light and revving their engines, were two biker chicks dressed in … well… biker gear. Kamikaze helmets, leather, the works.

And I thought to myself, “Wow, a woman really can grow up to be anything she wants here in Farmington.”

  1. jake midnight

I hate that during the founder’s festival that shwarmas plays their outdoor music so darn loud. Granted, I find middle eastern music offensive and off putting. But they have every right to play it for their out door diners during the festival. But the level is just too loud. I hate sounding racist, but middle easterners do seem to want ot force thier ways on everyone else around them. It’s not en0ugh that you accept them and welcome them to the community, but they insist you kiss their ass, and give up your own ways in defference to their ways.

And just too be fair. Irish music is as God awful bad as middle leastern, and at least middle eastern food is better tasting. So there you have it. And while I’m on Cowley’s, there food is as bad as it gets, they seem to relay on ‘being Irish’ as a free pass. The bar tenders are snotty as well. Cowleys seems to be happy with the cigar smoking clientel and desire no new customers.

  2. Jake, I believe everything except that you hate sounding racist. I think you’re just afraid for others to know you have opinions that might be considered racist. That’s why you’re posting with a fictitious name and an anonymous hotmail.com address.

I don’t know how Mr. Shwarma is doing, but it is well enough to be opening a second restaurant in another city. And Cowley’s has reported their business has steadily increased even in a bad economy.

You get back what you give, Jake, that’s just how the universe works. When you complain, you get more stuff to complain about.

So how’s the library today, busy?
