But it’s from Paul Welday. Hmmm.
MI Jobless Rate Hits Historic Levels; Still No “Issues” from Candidate Barnett
– Local Mayors Back Welday’s Action Plan for Change in Lansing –
(Farmington Hills, MI)…..As Michigan state government officials announced yesterday that Michigan’s unemployment rate jumped to 8.5 percent in May, a website check of Democrat state House candidate Vicki Barnett indicates that she has yet to issue any policy or issue statements to the voters of Farmington and Farmington Hills. Michigan’s unemployment rate in May is its highest monthly mark since October 1992. The seasonally adjusted rate is up from 6.9 percent in April 2008 and up from 7.1 percent a year ago.
While the issues section of the Barnett website ( www.electvickibarnett.com ) continues to remain absent without explanation, 37th District GOP candidate Paul Welday offered some insight. “If I had to defend the Granholm Plan for Michigan’s economy I might leave my issues section blank too,” Welday said. “Jennifer Granholm and her allies like Mrs. Barnett haven’t got a clue as to how to turn this economy around because they continue to cling to a high tax, big government approach. They have inflicted real damage on our economy so it is no wonder candidates like Vicki Barnett are now trying to cut and run from the Governor’s Plan to “Blow Us Away.”
Michigan’s unemployment rate is the highest in the nation exceeding the national average by 3 percent.
While issues and answers are nowhere to be found on the Barnett website, there is a claim of support from local mayors. “Not so fast,” says former Farmington Hills Mayor Donn L. Wolf, a Welday supporter. “Paul Welday is offering real solutions to begin turning Michigan’s economy around. I see nothing from Vicki Barnett. Welday’s Action Plan for Change is a blueprint to get Michigan moving again and I support him all the way.”
Welday, the leading GOP candidate for the 37th District is also supported by Farmington Mayor Valerie Knol and former state Representative and Farmington Mayor Wilbur “Sandy” Brotherton.
“Michigan is at a critical turning point in our state’s history,” Welday continued. “We must make our state the most attractive place in the world in which to business and that starts with cutting the size of state government, not expanding it; reducing taxes instead of raising them; and educating the best trained workforce in America, not driving young people out of Michigan at a record rate.”
“We need leadership in Lansing, not the status quo. It seems my Democrat opponent is content say nothing in order to get-along to go-along. Farmington and Farmington Hills deserves more and I intend to shake up Lansing from day one. It’s time for answers and it’s time for action. As these most recent unemployment numbers indicate, we’re not getting much now and we’ll get even less with candidates like Vicki Barnett who remain AWOL on the most important issue of the day,” Welday concluded.
